Potato chips were invented in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1853. A customer at a restaurant complained that his potatoes were too thick, so the chef, George Crum, sliced them paper-thin and fried them to a crisp. The chips were a hit and became a popular snack across the US. Today, air fryers make it easier to create crispy chips without the excess oil.
