Crispy and Quick, Guilt-free Air Fried Churros

Churros have been a popular treat in Spain for centuries, with their origins dating back to the 16th century. They were originally made by Spanish shepherds who needed a quick and easy snack while tending to their sheep. The traditional churro recipe consists of fried dough coated in cinnamon sugar, and they are often served with a cup of hot chocolate for dipping.

A healthier and easier way to make the classic Spanish treat, churros. These crispy and cinnamon-sugar coated churros are made in an air fryer, making them a quick and tasty dessert option.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Directions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F.
  • In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of butter, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil.
  • Once boiling, remove from heat and add 1 cup of flour. Stir until a dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  • Pipe the dough into the air fryer in 4-inch strips.
  • Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • While the churros are cooking, prepare the cinnamon sugar coating by mixing 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon in a shallow dish.
  • Once the churros are done, immediately roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Serve hot and enjoy your delicious air fried churros!

Notes

  • Make sure to preheat your air fryer before adding the churros.
  • You can also use a plastic bag with the corner cut off instead of a piping bag.
  • Serve with a side of chocolate sauce for dipping, if desired.
