Crispy and Quick, Guilt-free Air Fried Falafel

Falafel is a popular Middle Eastern dish made from ground chickpeas or fava beans. It is believed to have originated in Egypt and spread throughout the region, with each country having its own variation. In Lebanon, falafel is typically made with chickpeas and served in a pita with vegetables and tahini sauce. It has become a popular street food in many countries and has gained popularity as a vegetarian option.

Crispy, flavorful falafel made easy in the air fryer. Perfect for a quick and healthy meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 can of chickpeas (15 oz), drained and rinsed

  • 1/2 cup chopped onion

  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley

  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp ground coriander

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • Olive oil for brushing

Directions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F.
  • In a food processor, combine 1 can of drained and rinsed chickpeas, 1/2 cup of chopped onion, 1/4 cup of chopped parsley, 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 tsp of ground cumin, 1 tsp of ground coriander, 1/2 tsp of salt, and 1/4 tsp of black pepper.
  • Pulse the mixture until well combined but still slightly chunky.
  • Using wet hands, form the mixture into small patties, about 1 inch in diameter.
  • Lightly brush the patties with olive oil.
  • Place the patties in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the falafel is crispy and golden brown.
  • Serve hot with your choice of toppings and dipping sauces.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a food processor, you can mash the ingredients together with a fork.
  • For extra flavor, you can add 1 tsp of ground coriander and 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper to the mixture.
  • These falafel patties can also be baked in the oven at 375°F for 15-20 minutes.
