Granola is a popular breakfast food that originated in the United States in the late 19th century. It was first created by Dr. James Caleb Jackson as a health food for his patients at the Jackson Sanitarium in New York. Granola became even more popular in the 1960s when it was marketed as a health food and was featured in many hippie and health food cookbooks.
