Crispy and Quick, Guilt-free Air Fried Onion Rings

Onion rings first gained popularity in the United States in the 1920s, and have since become a staple in American cuisine. Traditionally, onion rings are made by dipping onion slices in a batter and then deep frying them. This results in a crispy and delicious snack, but it can also be high in fat and calories. With the rise of air fryers, people have started experimenting with cooking various foods in this appliance to achieve a healthier, yet still crispy, result.

  • In a third shallow bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  • Dip each onion ring in the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, and finally coat it in the panko breadcrumbs.
  • Place the coated onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  • Set the air fryer to 375 degrees F and cook the onion rings for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For best results, use a large air fryer so the onion rings have enough space to cook evenly.
  • If you prefer a spicier flavor, add some cayenne pepper to the flour mixture.
  • Leftover onion rings can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
